The best AI podcast generators, sorted by who writes the script
Disclosure
Sintra Studio is run by the same team as aixjo.com. We hold it to the same criteria as every tool on this page. See our editorial policy.
Short answer
If you want AI to write and host the episode from your notes, start with NotebookLM (free) or Jellypod (paid, with built-in distribution). If you write the script and need it voiced, ElevenLabs has the most voice options and cloning, and Wondercraft is the fuller studio with music and teams. Sintra Studio is the low-cost choice for voicing your own script, with free credits that do not expire. Murf AI and Podcastle suit business voiceover and editing recorded shows.

How we compared
Features and prices come from each vendor's own pages, checked on 5 October 2026. Where we could not read a vendor's page, the cell says so instead of showing a number. We have not run audio tests yet, so this page does not rank voice quality; it describes features only. No tool paid for its position. Sintra Studio's relationship with aixjo is disclosed above.
The order follows the reader's first decision: tools where AI writes the episode come first, then tools that voice a script you wrote. Within each group, broader tools come first.
NotebookLM: best free option for turning documents into a conversation
Evidence: Editorial assessmentNotebookLM's Audio Overviews read the sources you upload (notes, PDFs, links) and produce a discussion between two AI hosts. It is free to start, with a daily limit on audio generations that we could not confirm on Google's own pages. The trade-off is control: you choose the sources and can steer the focus, but you do not write the words the hosts say. That suits students and researchers who want to hear a summary on a walk. It is the wrong choice for any show that must say exactly what you wrote, such as a sponsor read or a correction.
Jellypod: best for AI-hosted shows that need hosting and distribution
Jellypod drafts episodes from your sources with AI hosts, lets you edit the script, and publishes to Spotify, YouTube and Apple Podcasts from the same account. Voice clones are included on all plans. There is no free plan, only a 7-day trial; Starter is $25 a month ($300 a year), Creator $50 and Business $125 (checked 5 Oct 2026). Pick it if you want a recurring AI-hosted show without a separate podcast host. Skip it if you need a free option or want to control every line from the start.
ElevenLabs: best voice range and cloning
ElevenLabs has the widest range of voices of the tools here, and its Studio handles long-form scripts. The free plan gives 10,000 credits a month without a commercial licence and without cloning; instant voice cloning starts on the Starter plan and Professional voice cloning on Creator (checked 5 Oct 2026). We do not show paid prices because the pricing page displayed promotional first-month prices we could not reconcile. It is the wrong choice if you want a podcast-shaped editor on a zero budget.
Wondercraft: best all-in-one studio with music and teams
Wondercraft combines script writing (yours or its assistant's), AI voices, a music library and team collaboration. The free plan is 150 credits with a watermark and no commercial rights. Creator is $25 a month, or $21 billed annually, with 1,000 credits, commercial rights, API access and one custom AI character; Pro is $45 a month for a team of up to three (checked 5 Oct 2026). It is the wrong choice for occasional solo use on no budget.
Sintra Studio: best free option for voicing a script you wrote yourself
Sintra Studio does one thing: it reads your script in AI voices, with a voice per speaker, and lets you regenerate a single line without paying for the rest again. The free Starter plan has 10,000 credits (about 10 minutes of audio by the provider's estimate) that never expire. That suits people who publish irregularly, since most free tiers reset monthly.
The trade-offs are real. It is a beta, there is no voice cloning, exports are voice-only, it does not publish to directories, paid prices are not public, and the Terms do not say whether free-plan audio may be used commercially. Pick it if your script is finished and your budget is zero. Pick Wondercraft or ElevenLabs if you need music, cloning or published pricing. Full Sintra Studio review.
Murf AI: business voiceover
Murf AI is a text-to-speech studio aimed at corporate voiceover and e-learning, with a voice library, a timeline editor and an API. Its pricing page could not be read in our checking environment, so we do not list its free-plan limits or prices here. Check them on Murf's own pricing page before you buy.
Podcastle: editing recorded shows, with text-to-speech on the side
Podcastle is a browser studio for recording, editing and cleaning up podcasts; AI voices are an extra rather than the core. Choose it if you record with a microphone and want AI help with the edit. We have not verified its current plans; check its pricing page.
Before you publish an AI-voiced episode
Tell listeners when voices are synthetic, and never imitate a real person without consent. YouTube, Apple Podcasts and Spotify each have rules on synthetic content or impersonation; read the current policy of every platform you publish on before you upload.
Common questions
Can AI make a podcast for free?
Yes. NotebookLM writes and voices a discussion from your documents for free within a daily limit. ElevenLabs' free plan (10,000 credits a month) and Sintra Studio (10,000 credits that never expire) can voice your own script. Free plans from ElevenLabs and Wondercraft exclude commercial use.
Which AI podcast tool lets me use my own voice?
ElevenLabs (from Starter), Wondercraft (custom characters on paid plans) and Jellypod (all plans) offer voice cloning. NotebookLM and Sintra Studio do not.
Which tools publish straight to Spotify?
Jellypod includes distribution to Spotify, YouTube and Apple Podcasts. The others export audio for your podcast host.
Is AI-generated podcast audio allowed on YouTube and Spotify?
Generally yes, with disclosure and without impersonating real people. Check each platform's current policy before you publish.
