AI Audio & Podcast Tools
Short answer
AI audio tools fall into two groups. Generators turn text into finished audio: either your own script read aloud (ElevenLabs Studio, Wondercraft) or an episode the AI writes from your sources (NotebookLM, Jellypod). Editors clean up audio you recorded (Descript, Podcastle). Pick the group first, then compare free plans and commercial rights, which differ more than voice quality does. How to choose

This is the first fork. NotebookLM and Jellypod read your notes, documents or links and write a conversation between AI hosts, so you control the topic but not the exact words. Wondercraft and ElevenLabs Studio read a script you supply, line by line, so every word is yours. If your show has to say exactly what you wrote (a sponsor read, a correction, a course module), choose a tool that voices your own script.
Do you need your own voice?
Voice cloning lets an AI voice sound like you. Jellypod includes voice clones on all of its plans, Wondercraft offers custom AI characters on paid plans, and ElevenLabs offers instant cloning from its Starter plan. Free plans usually exclude cloning. Clone only a voice you have permission to use.
Commercial rights on the free plan
Free plans are for trying a tool, and several exclude commercial use. Wondercraft's free plan carries a watermark and no commercial rights; ElevenLabs' free plan has no commercial licence (both checked 5 October 2026). If the episode will carry ads, sponsorships or sit behind a paywall, budget for a paid plan or get the provider's written terms first.
Credits that reset or carry over
Most free tiers reset every month, so an allowance you do not use is lost. ElevenLabs' free plan gives 10,000 credits a month. Sintra Studio's 10,000 free credits do not expire, which suits people who publish irregularly. If you publish once a month or less, check whether unused credits carry over before comparing allowance sizes.
Export, music and distribution
Some tools export a voice-only file you mix in an editor; others add music beds inside the tool. Wondercraft includes music; Jellypod includes distribution to Spotify, YouTube and Apple Podcasts. Most other generators export an MP3 or WAV that you upload to a podcast host, whose RSS feed reaches the directories.
Editing a recording instead
If you record with a microphone, you need an editor rather than a generator. Descript lets you edit audio by editing its transcript and includes AI clean-up; Podcastle records and edits in the browser. Both also offer AI voices for corrections and short inserts.
Disclose AI voices
Listeners and platforms expect to know when a voice is synthetic. YouTube, Apple Podcasts and Spotify each have rules on synthetic or altered content and impersonation; check the current policy of every platform you publish on, and never imitate a real person without consent.

Which AI podcast tools publish straight to Spotify?
